Former Super Eagles Star Eyes House of Representatives Seat

Former Super Eagles defender Shehu Abdullahi is set to venture into Nigerian politics, with plans to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.
Abdullahi, 33, enjoyed an accomplished football career, representing Nigeria at multiple levels, including the U-17, U-20, U-23, and senior national teams. He earned 37 caps for the Super Eagles between 2014 and 2019. At club level, he featured for several European sides, including Anorthosis Famagusta, Bursaspor, AC Omonia, and Levski Sofia, before returning to his boyhood club, Kano Pillars, in 2024.
After the conclusion of the domestic season, Abdullahi moved into public service, taking up an appointment as Special Assistant on Youth Mobilisation to the Sokoto State Commissioner for Sports.
His political ambitions have since come to the fore, as he has aligned with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of his electoral bid.
Confirming the development, former Kano Pillars teammate Ahmed Garba revealed that Abdullahi has stepped away from professional football to fully focus on politics. He added that the former defender has returned to Sokoto State and is preparing to contest for the Sokoto North/Sokoto South Federal Constituency seat.
If successful in 2027, Abdullahi would join a growing list of Nigerian footballers who have transitioned from professional sports into elective political office.
