How brake failure nearly claimed Portable’s life day before son’s naming ceremony

Portable has recounted a frightening near-death experience after his vehicle reportedly suffered brake failure in Ogun State, forcing him to steer into a roadside ditch to avoid a potentially fatal crash — just a day before the naming ceremony of his newborn son.
The controversial street-hop artiste shared videos from the scene on his Instagram story on Thursday night, appearing visibly shaken but thankful to have survived the incident unhurt. According to Portable, the accident occurred along a familiar road within his neighbourhood when he suddenly realised the vehicle’s brakes were no longer responding.
Faced with only seconds to react, the singer said he deliberately swerved into a roadside ditch to avoid colliding with oncoming vehicles. He noted that the outcome could have been far worse if a truck had been approaching at the time, as articulated vehicles frequently travel along the route.
“I thank God for sparing my life,” Portable said, adding that he escaped without injuries and that the damage to his vehicle was minor.
The singer also used the incident to highlight the poor condition of the road, urging government authorities to carry out urgent repairs to improve safety for motorists and residents who use the route daily.
The scare came less than 24 hours before the naming ceremony of his newborn son, Fijabi, whom he recently welcomed with his wife, Bewaji, following his widely discussed celebrity boxing match with comedian Carter Efe on May 1. Preparations for the ceremony were already underway, with Portable revealing that two cows had been purchased for the celebration.
In the days leading up to the event, Portable had also attracted attention online after distributing free Ankara aso-ebi fabric to fans and supporters as part of the festivities.
